Assessment and training weekends are run by our casework team and are held every 2 months over a weekend. You will be asked to attend both days with a group of other potential mentors.
The weekend gives you and us further opportunity to assess whether mentoring with Friendship Works is right for you at this time, in a less formal environment than the interview.
Over the weekend you will learn more about the families and children we support and will receive training on some of the important skills mentors need, like active listening, how to build a good relationship with a parent, and how to respond to the different situations you might encounter as a mentor. You will hear first-hand the experiences of some of our current mentors, and you will get advice on how to plan successful outings.
The training will give you all the information and preparation you need to be confident about building a friendship with a young person.
