Two-parent pilot project

Two-parent pilot project

Mentoring children in
two-parent families

Overview

Since 1977, Friendship Works has been helping children living in single-parent families by providing them with a mentor to take them out once a week and build a friendship.

At Friendship Works, we are committed to understanding and meeting the needs of each individual child. As such, we recognise that there are children living in a range of family circumstances who would equally benefit from the services we provide, not just children from single-parent homes.

To determine how we can help children from a variety of backgrounds, we are running a pilot scheme launching in December 2011, to work with children who live in two-parent families or homes where there are two main carers.

We will be working with agencies in Camden and Islington who will direct referrals to us.

We are recruiting volunteers specifically to work with children from two-parent/carer homes.

In the same way as our existing service, children will be allocated a mentor for a two-year minimum period, to spend time with them each week. We will support the development of their friendship with regular supervisions and reviews.
