Our referral criteria

  • More than one child in a family can be referred (a separate form should be filled out for each child)
  • Both the child and parent must actively want to have a mentor, and understand that it is voluntary
  • The family and home environment must be safe for a volunteer mentor to go into, with no ongoing domestic violence, alcohol or drug misuse (we do take referrals where parents are on supervised drug and alcohol treatment programmes)

Please note: we are now taking referrals for children living in families with more than one parent or carer.

Making a referral

Our waiting lists for both Camden and Islington are currently closed due to the high number of referrals in recent months and a limited capacity/resource within Friendship Works to process them. We will notify our regular referring partners when our lists re-open.

Friendship Works is funded almost entirely through voluntary funds and our capacity to take on new referrals is directly related to the funds we have available. If you work for a local authority or other body that has access to relevant funding we are happy to discuss taking on new referrals on a paid for basis and would welcome a conversation with you about this.

For further information, please contact Kate Gledhill, Head of Service Delivery, by emailing kate@friendshipworks.org.uk
