On Sunday, November 24 Friendship Works hosted our annual Gala Show and Dinner, “An Evening with the Stars”, at London’s Cafe de Paris.
The event certainly lived up to its name, thanks to the exclusive cabaret show put together by Jonathan Pryce, our patron of 20 years. Following a delicious dinner, guests were treated to performances from: Jonathan and pals Shane Attwool and Bill Clift; Damian Lewis; Tom Hiddleston; Celia Imrie; Janie Dee; and Neil Gordon, Linsay Britton and Ashley Campbell. Damian Lewis and Janie Dee’s duet of ‘Hit the Road Jack’ and Tom Hiddleston’s rendition of the Jungle Book’s ‘Bare Necessities’ were just two of the night’s many highlights.
The audience also heard first-hand from Friendship Works mentor and mentee Jamie and Perry about their 18 month friendship. The two shared stories about their outings together and Perry spoke about how his friendship with Jamie has broadened his horizons and built his confidence.
The evening finished with a fundraising auction in which Jonathan Pryce encouraged guests to part with their cash in return for prizes such as tea with star Eddie Redmayne and a round of golf with rugby legend Zinzan Brooke.
We are thrilled to announce that the event raised over £50,000 for Friendship Works. Chief Executive Iain Cassidy said, “We are so privileged to have a patron like Jonathan, who has worked so hard to bring this evening together. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, Friendship Works will be able to provide long-term mentors to more children who desperately need an additional, consistent adult friend in their lives help them to access new experiences, develop their skills and interests and gradually build their confidence. We would like to wholeheartedly thank our performers, guests and everyone who helped to make our event such a success. ”
