CEO Richard Turner brings you highlights from 2012 and a special Christmas message for all of our supporters, families, children and volunteers:
In December each year, Friendship Works hosts a Christmas party for children, their families, mentors and our supporters. It’s organised chaos, fantastic fun and very rewarding! The party is a lovely reminder of why our work is so important and I am always moved to see young people growing in confidence and the friendships with their mentors blossoming.
2013 has been an exceptionally busy year with lots of changes and improvements to our work. We introduced a much simpler volunteer application process and started orientation evenings to help prospective volunteers find out more about the benefits of mentoring. We are also working with Kings College London to change how we evaluate our services and to better record the impact it has on the lives of the children we help.
Our fundraising received a huge boost from news that Friendship Works was selected as the charity partner of the London Stock Exchange Group and BCS Consulting. Despite the difficult economic climate, the investment we have made in fundraising is beginning to show some really positive results.
Most importantly, we are extremely proud to have helped more children in the last year than ever before in our history. I would like to thank everyone including families, mentors, staff, volunteers, trustees, donors and supporters for making this possible.
I wish you a very enjoyable Christmas and New Year and look forward to your continued support, helping us make mentoring work for many more children in 2013.
