Woman’s Hour interview with mentor Joe Hayman on promoting gender equality

Friendship Works mentor Joe Hayman was interviewed live on Woman’s Hour on Wednesday 11 July as part of a programme about promoting gender equality and positive attitudes in young men.

Programme synopsis: As the next generation of boys grow to become men, what are they learning about the balance of power between the sexes? Would they call themselves feminists, do they accept that men and women are equal and how does their parents’ attitudes to work, family and the division of domestic chores in the home affect how they themselves might choose to live their lives in the future? Reporter Geoff Bird hears the views of a group of young men. and presented Jane Garvey is joined by Joe Hayman, who mentors a boy of 18 for mentoring charity Friendship Works, and by novelist and journalist Emma Burstall, who’s tried to bring her sons up as feminists.
